Archipelagic Thinking will examine shared cultural identity across The North Atlantic Arc.

Ag gluaiseacht le capaill agus míolta móra. Aesthetic practices of care; Migratory dances in the living old style.

How does a body dance socio-economic issues, confront the devastation of marginalised communities and languages or dance with questions of indigenity?

In Archipelagic Thinking Donovan examines his interest in migratory patterns on Oileán Chléire, a Gaeltacht island off Co. Cork, Ireland; of both humans and animals, as well as flows of value and resource distribution; cod, whales, oil and water.

Ruairí Donovan works in and through both Gaeilge and English examining the affect of both languages on the moving body. Archipelagic Thinking will examine shared cultural identity across The North Atlantic Arc where Donovan has been conducting field research.

Ruairí Ó'Donnabháin has been making dance works in Ireland since 2008.

Ó'Donnabháin is from County Cork, Ireland and his choreographic practice is

concerned with queering representations of the dancing body. He is currently living

and working on Oileán Chléire, a remote island and Gaeltacht off the south west

coast of Co. Cork investigating Gaeilge as a site of queer resistance. Ó'Donnabháin

has performed for Keith Hennessy, Mårten Spångberg and THEATREclub among

others. His own work has toured internationally across Europe and North America

and he is a core artist with Keith Hennessy and TURBULENCE (a dance about the

economy). He recently performed a solo dance for 30,000 people with Arcade Fire

and his work ZOMBIES; why death is dying or are you working hard enough? received the

Judges Choice award at the Tiger Dublin Fringe Festival 2014.

Made with the support of the communities of Oileán Chléire, St. John’s, Vatnajökull

National Park and Canna, Dublin Dance Festival, DAS Graduate School, Young Art

Fund Amsterdam, CREATE and the Arts & Culture Centre St. John’s Newfoundland.
